Remove the allergy-inducing MSG from your diet and you may just find yourself removing a whole raft of other potentially toxic ingredients at the same time. The cheaper the product or the more bulk you are getting for your dollar then, generally speaking, the more likely that product will contain a range of additives you might prefer to avoid.

It’s no secret that additives are much cheaper than real ingredients. If a manufacturer is prepared to compromise on food safety by using MSG to ‘improve’ flavour then they are likely to turn to many other additives to cut corners in the same product.

If this week at your weekly shop, you avoid just one ingredient – MSG in all its disguises – then you will be vicariously avoiding many other potentially harmless additives as well.
