Toxic but ‘Natural’ Baby Shampoo

A leading brand of baby shampoo claims to be 98% derived from natural ingredients.

On the surface that sounds good to me but I couldn’t help but wonder what the 2% ingredients that were ‘non-natural’ (ie synthetic and potentially toxic) might be.

The good news is this product is free from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and parabens which is a great start.

Now for the bad news. This natural baby shampoo also contains preservative 211 Sodium benzoate, citric acid and sodium hydroxide ‚Äì a chemical cocktail that can be held responsible for skin irritations, eye damage, dermatitis and sense organ toxicity. Not something I want close to my baby’s precious skin.

Perhaps the final word on this product’s website page says more than words can ‚Äì ‘Safety tip. Keep out of reach of children!’
